Healthcare professionals discussing patient safety
Purpose

A practical first step on the road to the wider Summit

The Forum will bring together an invited group of leaders and experts from across the medicines and patient-safety ecosystem. Their task is to clarify priority challenges, test practical responses and strengthen the initial working drafts.

Public consultation before and after the meeting will broaden the evidence and perspectives considered. The resulting 90-day process will create a stronger foundation for the wider Africa Patient Safety Summit planned for 2027.

The two days

A structured working process

Day 1 – 16 September 2026

Participants will follow risks across the medicines journey, examine why safety information is lost and identify weaknesses in detection, reporting, escalation and coordinated response.

Day 2 – 17 September 2026

Participants will examine real-world safety, patient experience, institutional capability and prevention before agreeing practical actions, responsibilities and areas for continental collaboration.
